OroZul.

Introduction

Introduction

OroZul is a piece of spec work, developed by Creative Drey to demonstrate the studio’s multidisciplinary design approach. Imagined as a premium Latin American restaurant based in Auckland, the project spans from brand storytelling and visual identity to menus, AI photography, and digital prototypes.

The name OroZul was inspired by the legend of El Dorado and the deep blues of seas, rivers, and skies—symbols of richness, depth, and culture. The visual identity embraces a striking colour palette and refined design language, all tailored to create an elevated hospitality experience rooted in Latin American cuisine and tradition.

Our goal was to explore how a restaurant brand could live seamlessly across physical and digital touchpoints while building a foundation for a scalable design system.

Objectives & Challenges

Objectives & Challenges

Concept Development

We set out to create a restaurant identity that feels premium yet authentic, balancing cultural storytelling with a modern, elevated aesthetic. The challenge was ensuring every element—from the colour palette to the menu design—tied back to the brand’s story and atmosphere.

Menu Design

Menus are more than lists of dishes—they’re visual and functional extensions of a restaurant’s identity. As visual thinkers, we designed the OroZul menu to reflect the brand’s character while prioritising clarity and user-friendliness. Clear dietary labels were incorporated, recognising the importance of inclusive and transparent communication, especially for diners with dietary preferences such as vegetarian options.

Photography with AI

Food photography plays a key role in shaping perceptions of a restaurant’s quality. The challenge for a conceptual project like OroZul was creating imagery that felt appetising, premium, and aligned with the brand—without access to real dishes. To solve this, we experimented with AI-generated photography as a support tool. It proved efficient, cost-effective, and visually cohesive, allowing us to present dishes that invite customers to “taste with their eyes.”

Digital Prototype

We extended the concept into a website and app prototype, envisioning a model where restaurants manage online orders directly through their own platforms rather than relying on third-party delivery services. This approach posed two key opportunities:

Greater Control: Restaurants could own the entire user experience, streamline the ordering process, and manage customer data directly.

Brand Consistency: Digital touchpoints—from website to mobile app—would reflect a unified visual identity, reinforcing trust and enhancing the brand’s perception in a crowded market.

Summary & Conclusions

Through OroZul, Creative Drey showcased how a restaurant concept can evolve into a fully fleshed-out cross-platform identity. From storytelling and menu design to photography and digital prototyping, each element was created with cohesion and customer experience in mind.

The project illustrates how strategy-led branding can go beyond logos and colour palettes—it becomes a holistic system that shapes customer interactions, builds trust, and positions a brand for long-term growth. By combining creativity with practical design solutions (like AI for photography or custom ordering systems), Creative Drey demonstrated its ability to deliver compelling, innovative outcomes that balance beauty with functionality.
